About CalcMyTariff.com

Our methodology, data sources, and commitment to accuracy in US tariff calculations.

Our Mission

CalcMyTariff.com exists because US tariff policy in 2026 is at its most complex since 1947. Multiple overlapping tariff programs — Section 122 global surcharges, Section 232 product-specific duties, Section 301 China tariffs, bilateral trade deals, and USMCA exemptions — create a stacking puzzle that most importers cannot solve without expensive customs brokers.

The average effective US tariff rate has surged to approximately 13.7% — the highest since 1947. The de minimis exemption ($800 duty-free threshold) has been suspended. Every shipment now faces layered tariffs that interact in non-obvious ways.

We built a free, instant calculator to democratize this information. Amazon FBA sellers, small business importers, and e-commerce operators deserve the same tariff clarity that Fortune 500 companies get from their customs brokers.

How We Calculate

Our tariff stacking engine applies the following formula for every country-product combination:

Total Tariff = MFN Base Rate + max(S122, S232, Bilateral) + S301
  • MFN Base Rate: Most Favored Nation rate — the default WTO-bound tariff
  • Section 122 Surcharge: Global uniform surcharge (expires ~July 24, 2026)
  • Section 232 Duties: Product-specific duties on steel (50%), aluminum (50%), copper, lumber, autos
  • Section 301: Additional tariffs on Chinese goods only, stacked on top
  • USMCA: Qualifying goods from Canada and Mexico = 0%

Landed cost also includes MPF (0.3464%, min $33.58, max $651.50) and HMF (0.125%, ocean only). Read our full tariff stacking guide →

Our Data Sources

Tariff rates are sourced from three authoritative organizations and cross-referenced before publication:

  • Tax Foundation — Country-level effective tariff rates and real-time trade policy tracking
  • US International Trade Commission (USITC) — Official HTS and MFN base rates
  • Penn Wharton Budget Model — Trade volume, economic impact modeling, cross-verification

No rate is published unless confirmed across at least two independent sources. See our editorial policy.

Disclaimer: CalcMyTariff.com provides tariff estimates for informational purposes only. Actual duty rates depend on the specific HTS classification of your goods, which requires professional customs brokerage expertise. Rates shown reflect our best interpretation of currently published tariff schedules and may not include all applicable duties, anti-dumping duties, countervailing duties, or special tariffs. Consult a licensed US customs broker for binding determinations. Tariff rates change frequently — verify current rates with CBP or USITC before making import decisions.
